Anderson, Dave (Africa)

Dave Anderson took his first photo with a Kodak instamatic as a nine-year-old and has never stopped snapping. While holding down a day job in film marketing, the former White House and MTV staffer snuck away to take a black and white course at the ICP. When it quickly became an all-consuming passion, it was clear a nerve had been struck. Dave Anderson gave notice five months later and has been photographing ever since.

Although Dave is an emerging fine art photographer, his work is already in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and the Worcester Art Museum. What's more, he's been featured in numerous exhibitions in both the U.S. and abroad and has already published his first book.

This series is from his trip to the West African country of Mali. These powerful portraits illustrate the stark beauty of river life in rural Africa.
