Nagata, Yoichi (portrait) Yoichi Nagata studied photography at Eikoh Hosoe's workshop and photography school in Tokyo and worked as a photographer and photo editor for the magazine, "YU". Yoichi Nagata also worked as a freelance photographer the the magazines "Brutus" and "Tarzan" and has worked on advertising campaigns for Shu Uemera, Shiseido, Asahi Beer and many others.For many years the artist has been photographing fancifully costumed club-goers at dress-code parties organized by one of his friends at after dark parties in Tokyo. They dress UP with fake eyelashes, hair extensions, tattoos and character related clothing in a motley riot of colors. The series is know as "Star of the Stars." Yoichi has been photographing these "clubbers" for more than three years and has a collection of over 500 portraits to date. This project is on-going. Another series from the artist is Sky/Earth, The Last Paradise, features pairings of photographs, one of the sky and one of the earth. |
