Spain, Dar (hand-colored) While many of Dar Spain's hand-colored photographs are studio compositions, she works with landscape and architectural images as well. Using oil paint and photo oil colors, each gelatin silver print is transformed into a combined medium of painting and photography.Dar's individual style finds more affinity with intuitive, loose coloring than with literal representation. The sensibility or mood of an image, which evolves during the coloring process, intrigues me more than the documentation of objects in a physical context. Often a subject will have a personal reference for Dar Spain, other times it will be a shape or a surface that invites rendering and definition with color. |
